Shibari

Spring Summer 2017

The collection Shibari discovers the historical routes of Shibari, an ancient Japanese capturing technique, and tells the story of a female Samurai fighting her way thru battle.

Shibari, a Japanese bondage art, is based on the ancient capturing techniques of the samurai. The ropes and various knots have their origin in traditional Japanese martial arts of restraining a person using cord or rope called Hojo-Jutsu. The ropes, knots and colors used are deeply connected to their religious beliefs and its symbolism. All silk pieces are inspired by Japanese military shirts and jackets.

Each outfit consists of two layers: Silk dresses and Jumpsuits representing a delicate and soft soul, ropes and leather pieces representing the external impact. A corsage and skirt made of embossed leather are symbolizing the rope marks left by the restraining technique. The outfits take us through the different phases of emotional growth, starting from a fully bondaged upper body and rope marks to a proud and strong fighter with a modern interpretation of a samurai armory.
